Uta and the Mount Arcosu
Our hives are positioned within the territory of Uta, in the same places where our grandparents used to put the traditional oak cork hive- in Sardinian casiddus de otigu.
Uta is a town of 8'000 inhabitants located about 20 km from Cagliari. Its vast territory includes downstream the big dam of the river Cixerri and extends south to the summit of Mount Arcosu.
The fertile soil of this territory has always favored practicing agriculture. Nevertheless, Uta includes two of the most spectacular forests in Sardinia: the Gutturu Mannu park and the Oasis of Monte Arcosu. The particular flora and fauna of these areas make the territory of Uta a hotspot for the biodiversity of Sardinia.
Woods of holm oaks, cork oaks, strawberry trees, lentisks and shrubs of Mediterranean maquis represent the perfect natural environment for the Sardinian deer, wild boar, Sardinian wild cat and other specific animals of the Sardinian fauna.
The mining settlements and archaeological areas are evidence of the anthropic exploitation in this area since prehistory. The most famous group of 8 bronze figurine from the Nuraghe culture was found right here, at the foot of Mount Arcosu, on the territory of Uta, around the middle of the 1800s. Nowadays they are part of the exhibition of the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari.
Our hives are located within this wonderful landscape.
